Deirdre Burns BA(Hons) Fine Art ASU was a passionate artist working mainly in oils for many decades, leading and inspiring the rest of the Burns family of artists through her indelible knowledge of her art. Very sadly, Deirdre passed away from Covid-19 in 2020 at the very beginning of the pandemic, when lockdowns were at their strictest and the future of our world very uncertain. As soon as restrictions allowed, Deirdre’s ashes were scattered at the top of Muckish Mountain, with panoramic views across her beloved Donegal, the County that inspired so many of her paintings. Deirdre – Mummy – Grandma – GG – lives on in the fact that we are reminded of her spirit every time we look up at the Mountain.
Her paintings are notable in scale, with subject matter mostly aimed at capturing Irish scenery with all its drama, beauty, and majesty. Though often ‘stormy’ in nature Deirdre’s works never failed to bring light and hope into the room through her clever use of colour, texture, and tone.
